Voice over IP

Business Grade VoIP Services

If you've never heard of VoIP, get ready to change the way you think about long-distance phone calls. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a method for taking analog audio signals, like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.

How is this useful? VoIP can turn a standard Internet connection into a way to place STD free phone calls.

VoIP is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to completely rework the world's phone systems. This is why Telstra and other telecommunication carriers around the world are more than a little worried.

How it works

You connect your existing phone system to the internet using a Gateway device. Your Gateway device would then be configured to communicate with a company called an ITSP (Internet Telephone Service Provider). The ITSP redirects your call from the Internet to the phone line of the person you are calling. They do NOT need to have a computer as you are calling their normal phone or mobile number.

The savings are made as there are no STD call charges required. If you are calling from Brisbane to a Sydney for instance, your call goes from Brisbane to Sydney via the Internet. The ITSP then connects your call from their Sydney network directly to your required Sydney number as a local call.
